Champion Petfoods
Auburn, Kentucky
The Champion Petfoods project was an $85 million 394,000-square-foot facility involving the design of over 1,000 capacity tons of packaged units, variable volume, and cooler/freezer units throughout the plant.
Variable air volume units were utilized in the office areas in air-conditioned process areas.
New DDC controls were used throughout the plant for control and pressurization control. Multiple levels of pressurization was required to cascade leakage airflow from clean areas to areas with lower cleanliness requirements.
The design also included other mechanical systems, such as two (2) 500 boiler-horsepower high pressure steam boilers, feedwater systems, steam and condensate distribution networks, two (2) 300 Hp process air compressors, compressed air distribution, process odor exhaust, sanitizer chemical piping, foam chemical piping, and process hot water.
